Leading higher learning institution in Singapore promotes remote work, collaboration and sustainability by moving its media assets to the cloud.

Overview

Established in 1990, Singapore’s Temasek Polytechnic (TP) takes pride in equipping its students with lifelong skills and digital knowledge for a future of dynamic change. Currently it offers 36 full-time diploma courses in the areas of applied science, business, design, engineering, humanities & social sciences and informatics & IT. It also has over 40 part-time courses, up to advanced diploma level.

Challenge & Context

Temasek Polytechnic is always looking for new ways to innovate and maximize the potential of its content for greater brand awareness. During the height of the global pandemic, the post-secondary education institution identified a need for a centralized and unified Digital Asset Management (DAM) platform for its video, image and audio archive. The platform had to be accessible from anywhere by lecturers, students and partners of the School of Business, ‘Communications & Media Management’ course.

Key for TP was a solution that was simple to use and remote-friendly - to accommodate the ever-changing pandemic situation. The school also wanted scalability to be able to adapt the platform as its needs and projects change.

On the sustainability side, TP wanted to harness the power of digital technology to reduce its energy consumption and the emissions generated by its existing setup of manual content indexing, storage and on-prem running on-prem machines.

Moments Lab Solution

Based on Temasek Polytechnic’s requirements, Moments Lab and its Asia Pacific partner, Benchmark Broadcast Systems, identified a need for a secure Cloud Media Hub - accessible via a simple web browser - that synchronizes and centralizes multiple sources of content.

A partnership was established, and Temasek migrated its full digital archive to Moments Lab in just one month. Incoming video, image and audio assets are enriched with indexing metadata, and TP’s content can be sorted into “Collections” for editorial organization and remote collaborative work. A semantic search bar allows users to easily find the content they need.

Granular management of rights and permissions means the university can keep its cloud platform secure whilst sharing various levels of access, depending on the user.

Frederic Petitpont, Moments Lab Co-Founder & CTO said:

“We’re delighted to be working with the team at Temasek Polytechnic, who gave us the opportunity to deploy the first Moments Lab Cloud Media Hub in Asia. The platform is designed to be used in a very intuitive way, and enables Temasek’s educators and students to access their photo and video assets from any location, with no hardware and zero training required.”

S. Ramesh Babu, Chief Technology Officer at Benchmark Broadcast Systems, explained:

“With Moments Lab, Temasek Polytechnic found the bespoke digital asset management platform that it was searching for. It’s simple to use, remote-friendly and scalable to adapt to TP’s changing needs and projects. Using Moments Lab Media Hub also allows Temasek to reduce its energy consumption and emissions generated from manual content indexing and on-prem storage, which aligns with its sustainability ambitions.”
